Spring 2025

Regent

Brothers,

The Spring 2025 semester has been a remarkable time for our chapter, filled with growth, achievement, and preparation for an exciting future. I’m proud to share that we’ve earned over 600 Schrader Award points this year—a true testament to the dedication and hard work of every brother.

We are closing out the semester with 43 active brothers, including 5 graduating seniors, a number that speaks volumes about the strength of our brotherhood and our sustained growth. This is the most active brothers we’ve had in recent memory, and we couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead.

Staying connected with our alumni remains one of our highest priorities. Your support and engagement inspire us to push further, and we love hearing your stories, advice, and updates. Don’t hesitate to reach out, your involvement makes a real difference in Beta’s success. Please call the house phone at (906) 523-7027 and enjoy our familiar old jingle, or stop by and visit if you’re in Houghton.

Looking ahead, we’re eagerly anticipating the Summer 2025 National Convention in Milwaukee. According to our Regional Director, Beta is currently a front runner for the Schrader Award. With the momentum and dedication we’ve seen this semester, there’s no reason we can’t bring it home.

Thank you for your continued support of our chapter! Here’s to another successful semester and an exciting year ahead.

Vice

Brothers,

It is with great pride and excitement that I announce the newest additions to Beta Chapter. We initiated 4 new brothers this semester that brings us to 16 on the year, continuing a streak of year over year growth. Throughout their pledging journey, the Spring Class of 2025 displayed exceptional perseverance and brotherhood. Please join me in welcoming the Spring Class of 2025:

 • Trysten Gruber “Grug Crood” 1530

 • Gavin Beek “Mr. Aloysius O’hare” 1531

 • Paul Skendzel “Morty Smith” 1532

 • Lucas Nolen “Stuart Little” 1533

Their journey is just beginning, and I have no doubt they will become great brothers who will contribute to the outstanding legacy of Beta Chapter.

House Steward

Brothers,

The active brothers have continued to take pride in the cleanliness of our house. We have been blessed this semester with no big or outstanding issues regarding appliances, besides a simple fix on our washing machine. The house also purchased a new dishwashing machine thanks to the Kitchen Steward J.J. “Jonesy” Cooke 1487. This should make the weekly dish duties much quicker. Brothers have continued to complete weekly chores, continuing our tradition of maintaining an upheld house. Along with this our semesterly deep clean went off without a hitch due to near perfect attendance. The brothers look forward to coming back next semester to a clean and welcoming abode.

Philanthropy

Brothers,

This spring was another great semester for our community involvement with some old favorites and a new volunteer event we are very proud of. We once again sent a great crew to help out at the ‘Pigs N Heat’ charity hockey game for the local police and fire departments. Brothers donned the mascot suits, sold 50/50 tickets, and helped with the cleanup afterwards. Another favorite of the brothers is wood splitting with Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly, to which we sent 13 volunteers this semester. Thanks to the family of brother Paul Ruesch, we had the opportunity to send 10 brothers to Iron Mountain for a weekend to volunteer in a pasty bake and sale to raise money for The Cure, which is involved in youth outreach and life skills coaching. Those events, along with various efforts taken up by individual brothers or smaller groups such as donating at blood drives and local Friday fish bakes for Lent, mean we had a great impact on the

community. With some future events for Adopt a Highway and Habitat for Humanity in the works, the brothers look forward to staying philanthropically involved heading into the Summer and Fall.

Rush

Brothers,

I trust all is well with you,

We have had another successful rush period this spring semester with many fun rush events and great attendance. We invited potential members to work on our house’s statue, played dodgeball, a classical movie night, and more! With 5 bids given out we were able to introduce 4 new members to the brotherhood and our long lasting values. The brotherhood is confident they will represent our house with pride.

Corresponding Secretary:

Brothers,

This past Spring semester has been exciting with plenty of great stories and memories made along the way. As Corresponding Secretary this semester, I have done my best to keep our Instagram (thetataubeta) and Facebook (Theta Tau – Beta Chapter) up to date to showcase and display the latest news at Beta Chapter. Both pages will continue to be updated going forward with updates regarding events, pledge classes, as well as any other updates we have.

I speak for all the brothers at Beta Chapter when I say that we greatly appreciate and look forward to all of the support that we continue to get from our alumni, and we encourage you all to continue visiting and writing to us with life updates, stories, advice, and anything else you’d like to share. We are also extremely grateful for the generous donations that have been made to support us and our house. Any donations can be sent through this link: https://givebutter.com/DugganFund. On behalf of the actives at Beta Chapter, thank you all for your unwavering support, and we look forward to sharing more with you!

Dog Steward:

Brothers,

For Dog Steward this spring semester, Beau has been growing up and getting comfortable with his surroundings. He spent all winter running around in the snow and taking as many naps on the ice rink as possible. He is now 2 years old, and received a lot of gifts for his birthday, especially his signature birthday steak. Although he is getting older, after taking him to the vet, he is very healthy and is staying active. He will be staying with different brothers over the summer to help with the transition as I pass this position onward. He is very excited for his summer, playing in the water, sunbathing, and snoring his days away.
